Oral Hygiene Health Condition Minimizes the Risk Of COVID-19

Gum Disease associated with increased rates of hospitalization, other health problems, and even death in the patient suffering from COVID-19

Taking care of good oral hygiene is very important, as this is the way open to other complications if not taking it seriously. Inflamed and infected gums result in more fatal outcomes for patients diagnosed with the SARS-COV-2 virus. According to the recent study conducted by McGill researchers recently published in the Journal of Clinical Periodontology, gums diseases may also be associated with issues arises from COVID-10, including Emergency condition and death.

Researchers also found that COVID-19 patients having hum infection were 3.5 times more likely to get admission to the intensive care unit, 4.5 times more likely in need of a ventilator, and 8.8 times more likely to die than those without any gum disease.

COVID-19 and Oral Hygiene

Researchers have found that the risk of COVID-19 is also associated with periodontal diseases and poor dental hygience complications. In addition, the microbial flora or the oral microbiome of the mouth is interlinked with the COVID-19 outcomes.

According to their research, they find the connection between post-viral complications and high-bacterial load in the mouth. Moreover, improved oral hygiene health may also reduce the risk of COVID-19. Finally, they found a strong correlation between COVID-19 disease outcome and periodontitis.

Periodontitis is considered a risk factor for multiple systemic and oral diseases. Coronavirus is an invisible pandemic. We should raise awareness of this disease and make an effort to adopt good oral hygiene habits, especially during this pandemic.

Patients with Bad Oral Hygiene should routinely visit their dentists during the pandemic.

One study also found that biomarkers blood levels that indicate body inflammation are significantly higher in patients suffering from COVID-19 and who have gum diseases. For example, periodontitis causes inflammation of the gums. If left untreated, it spread out in the whole body and weakens the immune system.

This is also confirmed from the observational study that collected the crossed dental records compared with medical records of patients having COVID-19. The research includes different factors such as behavioral factors, demographics, and medical conditions.

In COVID-19 patients, the virus causes an inflammatory response that leads to complications or even death.

A study from the CDA journal examines the cytokine storm role interlinked with COVID-19 infection severity. One aspirated bacterial affects lung function. Thus, it increases the risk of COPD, pneumonia, and COVID-19 related to pulmonary issues. Furthermore, the role of cytokine storms is associated with high interleukin-6 levels in the severity of SARS-CoV-2.

Researchers have advised this home message:

"Oral hygiene, dental, and periodontal treatment have potential to reduce the risk of oral bacterial burden. Thus, reduces the chances of systemic inflammatory response. Therefore, promoting good plaque control and treating periodontitis is essential."

Successful Control of Periodontitis may be helpful to the lungs, minimizing the risk and severity of the COVID-19 respiratory issues

When to See Your Dentist?

It is significant to visit your dentist for preventive and other dental care needs. Oral health is associated with our overall wellbeing and health. So, taking care of our mouth helps the other body function. Must visit your dentist if you feel any oral issues. Your dental healthcare professional may recommend some strategies to handle the situation, depends on the factor such as your dental health condition, risk factors, previous medical history, and any association with community outbreak.

Avoid visiting the emergency department if you have any dental issues, and those settings are not set up to treat any dental problem such as tooth pain. Instead, visit your dentist and concern about the issue. Properly treat your dental injury, so there are fewer chances of COVID-19 infection.

Treat Your Oral Health Issues

Our mouth is naturally brimming with bacterial. So, it is important to brush and floss regularly. If the percentage of the bacterium build-up, it may cause painful issues, including dental abscess. The pus bacteria accumulate around the teeth roots and damage them slowly. Thus, it results in tooth pain, sensitivity, and even need extraction. Signs and symptoms of the dental infection may spread into the whole body and include the following factors:

•    Chills and Fever
•    Dizziness and Fatigue
•    Swelling in mouth
•    Tooth Pain

If the cavities and calculus are left in the tooth, it damages the whole tooth structure. Your dentist may need to check tooth health and sometimes need a tooth extraction. Tooth extraction is not an easy process if the condition is worst. But, getting the right dentistry instrument is essential to avoid tooth extraction pain. Dental elevators are designed to help in easy and effective tooth extraction without causing any trauma to nearby tissues.

How to use Dental Elevator?

The dental extraction elevators are used with basic luxation motion when inserted the tip into the socket. Hold the handle with a firm grip and turn in oscillating clockwise-counter-clockwise motion. Use the longitudinal edge to apply the rotational force in order to rotate the tooth on the long axis. Then push the tooth away from the socket.
Coaxial illumination and microscopes facilitate observation inside the socket to find the progressive luxation. Different elevators use in various ways to help the dentist in making tooth extraction effective. Here are multiple types of elevators that you may want to look at:

•    Winter Elevator
•    Warwick James Elevator
•    Seldin Elevator
•    Root Tip Pick
•    Potts Elevator
•    Luxating Elevators
