Achieve Efficient Calculus Removal with Specially Designed Gracey Curettes

Achieve Efficient Calculus Removal with Specially Designed Gracey Curettes

Dental curettes are scaling and root planing instruments made of German stainless steel for added durability and efficiency.
Generally, there are two categories of curettes: Universal and Area-specific curettes.

Gracey curettes are area-specific and assist in efficiently removing supra and subgingival calculus. The precision craft of these dental instruments allows better adaptation to the anatomy of the roots in the oral cavity.

Here, we will discuss the available types and how to use these area-specific dental surgical curettes.

Types of Gracey Curettes

Dental Gracey curettes come in multiple sizes and designs to meet the diverse range of calculus removing and root planing procedures.

We, at GerDentUSA, offer numerous precision-crafted dental Gracey curettes, each manufactured from medical-grade German Stainless steel for durability and precision.

A few of our Gracey curettes are listed below:

Dental Gracey Curettes (Deep Pocket)

The Gracey deep pocket curettes are long handheld instruments that are used for removing calculus and root planing, specifically in deep periodontal pockets exceeding 4mm. These high-quality dental instruments feature a slender shank that allows the surgeons to reach below the gum lines and other deep periodontal pockets.

The thinner working ends further reduce tissue trauma, enhancing patient comfort during the procedures. Their double-ended design featuring curved blades is perfect for removing mesial and distal surfaces of teeth.

Our Gracey deep pocket curettes come in different sizes, designs, and colors to meet the diverse needs of dental surgeons. A few of the variations are:

•    Black Long Gracey Deep Pocket 3/4 Curettes
•    Gracey Deep Pocket Curette 7/8 Long

How to Use Gracey Curettes?

While using Gracey curettes, follow these instructions for optimal results and minimum complications.

Ensure proper patient positioning for optimal access and visibility.
Choose the appropriate Gracey curette based on the tooth surface to be treated.
Hold the Gracey curette in a modified pen grasp with the instrument handle between the thumb and the index finger.
Approach the tooth at a slightly oblique angle, ensuring that the lower shank of the curette is parallel to the long axis of the tooth.
Establish fulcrum support by resting the little finger or ring finger on the patient's face or tooth to stabilize the hand.
Gently insert the curette subgingivally into the periodontal pocket until the entire working end is beneath the gingival margin.
Use a controlled, exploratory stroke to assess the presence of calculus deposits and the topography of the root surface.
Adapt the blade to the tooth surface curvature, ensuring the entire working edge is in contact with the root.
Employ short, overlapping, vertical, or oblique strokes with controlled lateral pressure to remove calculus deposits.

Important! Always follow proper infection control protocols, wear appropriate personal protective equipment, and adhere to the recommended guidelines.
