Elastic Separating Pliers are used to hold and spread elastics during placement. In cases where band spaces are required before band placement, a separating elastic interproximal is done by separating pliers.
These instruments have the following features:

The tips are grooved, and beaks are angled in some cases to prevent slippage until elastic is ready to use. A screw may control the opening width in some patterns.
